This year the Town Council will take over responsibility for the Barmote Croft public toilets and operation of the Tuesday Market. The consultation 2017 revealed wide spread support for retention and relocation of the market (adjacent to Memorial Hall). The Town Council has also acquired the toilet block on Fanny Shaw Playing Field which will be brought back into use and refurbished as a community facility for use by community groups.
Working on residents’ behalf, the Town Council believes that these facilities are key assets for the Town and has therefore stepped in to avoid their closure by Derbyshire Dales District Council.
To allow the Town Council to operate these facilities it will be increasing rates (precept), but has worked hard to keep the rate increase to a minimum.
This year the Council will increase the total amount raised through rates by £18000 to fund these additional responsibilities. The impact of the increase will be 80p per Band D property per month and will ensure the Town retains the Tuesday Market and Barmote Croft Public Conveniences.
