Tuesday Market- Mayor’s message
Market update in light of the new Lockdown
The Mayor of Wirksworth, Andy Pollock, made the following statement today about the Tuesday Market:
“I am pleased to confirm that the Tuesday Market can continue to operate, providing essentials.
Many of you who use the market will realise that the council introduced additional safety measures at the outset of the 2nd lockdown.
Stall numbers are now reduced in order to comply with social distancing requirements and there is a one-way system in place for shoppers. During the lockdown period only stalls selling essential goods are permitted. As an added precaution all our stallholders and Town Council staff wear face coverings and during peak hours there is an increased number of staff on site, to help enforce the one-way system and maintain the flow of pedestrian traffic. These measures are in excess of the actions required by government legislation for the safe operation of markets.
Many of you already wear a mask when you visit the market and I would encourage all shoppers to do this if you are able.
Please support your local market but take care to adhere to the guidelines, maintain social distance and please avoid socialising within the market square.”
